North Rhine-Westphalia: WWII bomb defused in Bochum

Bochum (dpa / lnw) - A British aircraft bomb with a long-term detonator from the Second World War was defused in Bochum on Wednesday evening. The 500-kilogram explosive device fitted with an acid detonator had previously been discovered on Sachsenstraße, the city announced. The particularly sensitive detonator made it necessary to evacuate the neighboring houses immediately.

According to the city, around 5,500 residents had to leave their apartments and houses. More than 400 citizens took advantage of the offer of a care center in the Centennial Hall and were cared for there.
