Olivier Faure majority in the National Council of the Socialist Party

This should put an end to the internal battle that undermined the Socialist Party (PS) in January. According to his entourage, the first secretary of the PS, Olivier Faure, obtained, Thursday, February 16 evening, the "absolute majority" in the national council of the party, after the results of the elections of the first federal secretaries, last phase of the Congress

Olivier Faure was re-elected at the end of January at the head of the PS, after a bitter battle with his rival the mayor of Rouen, Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, but the latter, who had become first deputy secretary, affirmed that Olivier Faure did not have a majority within the party authorities.

To know which of the two held the majority within the national council (a sort of party parliament), it was indeed necessary to await the elections of the first secretaries in each federation. This vote counts for a third in the composition of the national council which comprises a total of 306 seats.

Olivier Faure had already acquired 101 after the vote on the orientation texts, on January 12, which had placed him in the lead (49.15%).

The Paris Federation escapes Olivier Faure

The elections of the first federal secretaries began on February 2 and will last until February 25, but already, the entourage of Olivier Faure indicates that in view of the results of Thursday evening, he is "assured of have a majority in the National Council this evening and more widely in the coming days". Of the fourteen elections that were played Thursday evening, "at least eight" were won by Olivier Faure and are added "to the 46 already garnered" by the first secretary since the start of the federal elections.

In total, Olivier Faure therefore has at least 155 seats and "will be able to implement his roadmap and pursue his strategy of unifying the left", specifies his entourage.

But the first secretary failed to win the Paris Federation. Its candidate, Emma Rafowicz, lost to former MP Lamia El Aaraje who won by a wide margin (60.1%). This close friend of Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol and Anne Hidalgo allows the mayor of Paris to keep control of this federation. She replaces Senator David Assouline, who had decided to leave the hand.
