Policy Podemos argues that with the Housing Law "tenants will be more protected" and that squats are "specific cases"

The struggle to make the future Housing Law profitable is still alive. The rule, which is expected to be approved this week in Congress, is still under debate. Podemos now wants to introduce in the text that tourist rental apartments be limited in areas stressed by prices. A measure that intends to transfer to the parties of the so-called governance bloc in the next few hours. This matter was raised in the negotiation, but was left out. Now they want to get it back. It is the finishing touch that Podemos wants to a law that they consider "represents a paradigm shift" and with which "tenants will be more protected."

In Podemos they have not wanted to assess the transactional amendment of the PSOE with Unidas Podemos, ERC, Más País, Compromís, the CUP, the BNG and the PDeCAT, approved last Thursday in the Transport Commission that gave the green light to the opinion on the project of Housing Law, and that hinders and slows down the procedure for the expulsion of squatters and tenants who stop paying and, therefore, the consequent return of the homes to their owners. From now on, the plaintiff who initiates procedures for the recovery of his property must "certify" whether or not he is a large holder and whether or not the occupants use the property as their habitual residence.

In the case of large holders, the demands are more acute because they will need to prove the economic situation of the occupant to discern if they are people in a situation of vulnerability.

"The focus is placed on the wrong issue. The problem is in access to housing. In no case in Spain is there a squatting problem," said Pablo Fernández, spokesman for Podemos, in an appearance at the party headquarters. "There may be very specific cases. And for that is the current legal system that we respect."

Without wanting to go into that amendment that is included in the report of the presentation of the Housing Law, in Podemos they seek to focus on the week in which the norm will be approved in Congress, since although Minister Ione Belarra was very On top of the three years of negotiation, in the final stretch of the same the negotiation was monopolized by the Ministry of Transport, ERC and Bildu, these two parties being in charge of announcing the agreement.

The Podemos proposal aims to limit and delimit tourist rentals in those areas that are declared as stressed by prices. They want large holders not to be able to withdraw properties from the market to bypass the Housing Law and put them up as tourist rentals at the price they want. His idea is that tourist rental places in stressed areas are limited to 2% of the number of inhabitants in that area. That is, if 10,000 people live there are only 200 places. But although the norm is approved on Thursday in Congress, they have not yet negotiated with other parties.
