The PP has chosen Castilla y León as the setting for its pre-campaign act one exact month before the May 28 elections, the only autonomous community in which it governs in coalition with Vox. Even so, neither the regional president, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, nor Alberto Núñez Feijóo have made the slightest allusion to the party that a year ago allowed them to maintain one of their traditional autonomous fiefdoms.
What's more, the opposition leader has once again challenged the PSOE with his proposal to allow the mayor who heads the most voted list to be inaugurated in the town halls. This measure would allow popular candidates who win but not with an absolute majority to come to power without the need for pacts, even if the sum of seats of the left formations is higher.
"If they accept that commitment, we will fulfill it," Feijóo stressed in an act held this Friday next to the Segovia aqueduct. In the national leadership of Ferraz they have already rejected a measure that they do not consider "neither serious nor coherent" and insist on the strategy of stirring up the scarecrow that if the PP needs Vox to govern after 28-M "it will do the same again than in Castilla y León".
In the largest community in Spain, the popular ones only control the consistory of one of its nine provincial capitals, Salamanca. It is a great political and moral hypocrisy," he said, referring to the pacts that the coalition of the PSOE and United We can maintain with the pro-independence parties.
Likewise, he has justified that the PP has supported the reform of the law of only yes is yes promoted by the PSOE, a decision that he himself has recognized that has not been unanimously understood within the party. Mañueco, for his part, has overlooked that he shares the Government of Castilla y León with Vox. "I have been demonstrating for a year that I comply with the facts, first in health, with tax cuts, with aid for housing and transportation...", the regional president pointed out in a singular deliberate and also putting the focus of the municipal authorities on national politics: "On May 28, the yellow card will be issued to sanchismo as an advance of the red card of the generals to throw Sánchez out of La Moncloa."
