Protest procession: demonstration against corona measures in Berlin

Opponents of the Corona measures gathered at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin on Saturday. According to the police, more than 1,200 people took part in a protest march that started late noon on the west side of the Brandenburg Gate under the motto "Unrestricted restoration of all fundamental rights". According to a dpa reporter, several dozen people came together there to counter-protest. These included members of the initiative "Grandmas against the Right", which campaigns against anti-Semitism, racism, misogyny and fascism.

According to the police, more than 200 emergency services were on site. According to their information, the organizers of the protest against the Corona measures had previously spoken of 10,000 expected participants. Originally it was said that the protest march should lead back to the Brandenburg Gate. According to a police spokesman, however, the route was extended and should lead, among other things, from Torstrasse to Rosa-Luxemburg-Strasse to Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz. Left-wing initiatives had called for counter-protests there. In the evening (as of 6.30 p.m.), according to the police, there were still around 450 participants in the protest march and around 50 counter-demonstrators.

Several participants in the demonstration called for the release of Michael Ballweg, the founder of the "lateral thinking" movement, from custody. The Stuttgart public prosecutor's office is investigating the 47-year-old for fraud and money laundering. The "lateral thinking" movement is directed against the Corona policy.

This Monday marks the anniversary of the first major demonstration of the "lateral thinking" movement. Opponents of the Corona measures have therefore called for events and rallies nationwide.
