Russia shoots down four Ukrainian drones in Belgorod and Oryol regions

Drone attacks are intensifying on Russian territory. Moscow claimed on Wednesday September 20 that it had destroyed four Ukrainian drones overnight over the regions of Belgorod, bordering Ukraine, and Orel, also in the west. In three separate press releases published overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, the Russian Defense Ministry reported three attacks involving four drones.

The first two were shot down by air defenses over the Belgorod and Orel regions around 9 p.m. local time (8 p.m. Paris), a third again in the Orel area around 10:30 p.m. local time (9:30 p.m. in Paris), then a fourth as it flew over the Belgorod region around 11:45 p.m. local time (9:45 p.m. in Paris), according to the ministry.

The ministry has not provided information on possible damage or casualties at this stage. Ukrainian attacks of this type against Russian territory, whether its capital Moscow, the border areas of Ukraine or the annexed Crimean peninsula, have increased in recent months against the backdrop of a counter- Kiev offensive started in early June.

The Belgorod region is located in western Russia, on the border with Kherson on the Ukrainian side. The Oryol region is also in the west, a few hundred kilometers south of Moscow. On Sunday evening, Russia said it had shot down four Ukrainian drones: one in the Belgorod region and three others in annexed southwestern Crimea.
