Saxony: AfD politician Wendt calls for justice in pensions

Dresden (dpa / sn) - AfD politician André Wendt sees a need for action for many people in Saxony in view of the impending poverty in old age. The figures would show that the Free State will be particularly affected by poverty in old age, Wendt said on Friday of the German Press Agency. "Even the basic pension does not help, since pensioners only benefit from these benefits after at least 33 years of basic pension periods. In addition, in many cases the basic pension is below the basic security in old age, so that pensioners will continue to be dependent on support."

Wendt had made a small inquiry on the subject in the state parliament. The Federal Ministry of Labor lists 141,827 employees in Saxony who currently earn too little to get a pension above the basic security level after 45 years. That would affect about every seventh employee with a full-time job.

Wendt said: "In principle, when calculating pensions, it must make a difference whether citizens have worked for decades or have lived mainly on social benefits, although work would have been possible. Therefore, as a first step, we would like 25 percent of the old-age pension not to be based on Basic security in old age are taken into account. We finally need pension justice."
