Halle (dpa/sa) - 64 million euros are being invested in a new research building at the Max Planck Institute for Microstructure Physics in Halle. The foundation stone for the 12,500 square meter building was laid on Wednesday, as announced by the Saxony-Anhalt Ministry for Science, Energy, Climate Protection and the Environment. The research building in the "Weinberg Campus" technology park will house, among other things, special laboratories, offices and a 700 square meter clean room. In addition, the number of employees there will be doubled to around 300.
The Max Planck Institute for Microstructure Physics was founded in 1992 as the first institute of the Max Planck Society in East Germany. Current focal points are research into new materials manufactured with atomic precision, the development of new concepts in data processing and storage, and the integration of optical methods for researching neuronal processes.
