Saxony-Anhalt: CDU financial politician insists on a balanced budget

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The new financial policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group, Stefan Ruland, has called for clear prioritization when preparing the 2023 state budget. "During the previous budget deliberations of the state government for the coming year, it became clear that the personnel costs in the state service in particular have reached a record level. There is an urgent need for action to reduce these costs," he said on Friday.

Ruland emphasized that a balanced budget is the top priority for his group. The country's benefit laws must be critically questioned. The member of parliament from Bernburg took over the office of financial policy spokesman this week from Guido Heuer, who prevailed on Monday in a new election of the parliamentary group leader against the previous incumbent Siegfried Borgwardt.

The state government wants to agree on the budget for 2023 in the next few weeks before it is discussed in parliament. The volume of the budget should be around 13 billion euros. Most recently, however, the registrations of the individual ministries were still around one billion euros above the forecast income.
