Saxony-Anhalt: Elementary school students most frequently switch to a grammar school

Halle (dpa/sa) - After elementary school, most students in Saxony-Anhalt go to high school. In the 2021/22 school year, after fourth grade, there were almost 7,000 girls and boys and thus 41.1 percent of the students, as the State Statistical Office announced on Tuesday in Halle. The rate was highest in Magdeburg at 49.2 percent, while it was lowest in the Salzland district at 30.9 percent. The second most common (35.8 percent) were primary school students who switched to secondary schools. The students changed to a community school significantly less often after primary school, nationwide it was 15 percent.

The community school enables longer periods of joint learning and offers various school-leaving qualifications. It has existed since the 2013/14 school year. In some districts there are no community schools, but in Magdeburg there are many.
