Saxony-Anhalt: film festival for historical and costume films in Wörlitzer Park

Wörlitz (dpa/sa) - Lovers of lavishly furnished historical and costume films will get their money's worth at a film festival in the Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz. After the opening of the Wörlitzer Filmtage on Saturday, seven cinema classics will be shown in the open air on the island of Stein until August 26, including the current historical drama "Corsage" by Marie Kreutzer. The opening film illuminates the life of the aged Empress Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary and inspires with large costumes without Sisi romance.

Also on the film festival program are "The Wondrous World of Louis Wain" (2021, directed by Will Sharpe) with Benedict Cumberbatch and "Meeting in Travers" (1989, directed by Michael Gwisdek). This is the last film contribution from the GDR that was submitted to the Cannes Film Festival.

The Wörlitzer Filmtage, which also includes the Dessau-Wörlitz Cultural Foundation, has existed since 2016. Ten years ago, the concert film "Pink Floyd - Live at Pompeii" acted as a "test balloon" for an open-air cinema in the so-called Roman theater on the island of Stein. The film festival is said to be unique in Germany due to its specialization.
