Saxony-Anhalt: Haseloff: Don't forget the suffering and destruction in Ukraine

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - Saxony-Anhalt's Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) pointed out suffering and destruction, but also solidarity, on the anniversary of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. "This war has caused unspeakable suffering for the civilian population, and the suffering and destruction continues to increase every day. We must not forget that," Haseloff said on Wednesday. "The war triggered massive refugee movements. More than eight million people from Ukraine are registered as refugees in Europe."

The head of government thanked Saxony-Anhalt for their willingness to help. "Your solidarity with Ukraine is unbroken. Aid measures are still being organized and coordinated across the country. That impresses me very much."

Haseloff also emphasized: "We must not give up hope for peace." Russian President Vladimir Putin is currently not interested in a negotiated solution. "That's why Ukraine needs our solidarity. This war is also an attack on our freedom and our values."
