Saxony-Anhalt: IWH starts study on the impact of the "coal billions"

Halle (dpa/sa) - Are the funds for the areas in Germany particularly affected by the coal phase-out sensibly invested? The Leibniz Institute for Economic Research Halle (IWH) wants to deal with a corresponding analysis in the next four years. The institute announced this on Thursday. The study is to be produced in cooperation with the RWI - Leibniz Institute for Economic Research in Essen.

For the areas directly affected by the lignite phase-out by 2038, the federal government plans to spend around 40 billion euros. The funds flow in particular to the districts in "Lausitz, in Central Germany and in the Rhineland".
