Saxony-Anhalt: Municipalities receive 1.5 billion euros for structural change

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The areas in Saxony-Anhalt affected by the coal phase-out have planning security as to how the federal financial aid of around 1.5 billion euros will be divided. The Burgenland district, the Saale district, the Mansfeld-Südharz district, the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district and the city of Halle had agreed on a distribution key together with the state, the State Chancellery announced on Tuesday.

Accordingly, the Burgenlandkreis receives around 28 percent of the sum, which corresponds to 432.5 million euros. The Saale district and the district of Mansfeld-Südharz will each receive 308.9 million euros. It is followed by the district of Anhalt-Bitterfeld (278 million) and the city of Halle (216.2 million). Various projects are intended to promote economic development in the regions.

"The joint coordination between the regional authorities and the state is of great importance," explained Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff. This creates the planning security to be able to profitably use the potential in the regions.
