Dresden (dpa / sn) - With a witness call, the police are looking for three attackers who are said to have attacked two participants in the Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Dresden's old town. The strangers hit an 18-year-old and a 27-year-old on Saturday evening and injured them, the police said on Tuesday. The perpetrators fled in an unknown direction. The injured were taken to a hospital for examination. The police are investigating aggravated assault.
It wasn't the only attack on CSD visitors at the weekend: According to the federal police, another participant at Dresden Central Station was insulted and injured. Emergency services noticed the attack, intervened and arrested the suspect, according to Twitter.
The SPD in Dresden called for better protection for queer people. "I hope that the attacks will be cleared up as far as possible and the perpetrators will be punished accordingly," said the chairman, Albrecht Pallas. According to the information, one of the two participants who were attacked by the three strangers was an SPD member.
Thousands of people marched through Dresden at the CSD parade on Saturday. A 25-year-old was fatally injured at a CSD meeting in Münster at the end of August.
Every year in many cities around the world, the CSD commemorates the events of June 28, 1969, when police officers stormed the New York gay and lesbian bar "Stonewall Inn" on Christopher Street. This triggered multi-day protests by gays, lesbians and transsexuals.
