Saxony: Attack on the "Mangal" restaurant: Long prison sentence required

Chemnitz (dpa / sn) - In the trial of an attack on the Turkish restaurant "Mangal" in Chemnitz, the public prosecutor's office demanded ten years in prison for the former host. In her plea, she spoke out in favor of a conviction, among other things, for attempted murder in 15 cases, as a spokeswoman for the Chemnitz Regional Court announced on Monday. In addition, 300,000 euros are to be confiscated. The defense, however, pleaded for acquittal. The judges want to give their verdict on Tuesday.

In October 2018, the arson attack on the restaurant caused a stir far beyond the city. At the time, 15 people were in the apartments above the restaurant - they were unharmed. The Turkish-born innkeeper had persistently claimed that the perpetrators were to be found among right-wing extremists. According to the indictment, however, he had commissioned the whole thing himself in order to collect a high sum insured. The case has been under discussion at the Chemnitz Regional Court since the beginning of February.
