Saxony: Corona infection rate in Saxony has fallen

Dresden (dpa / sn) - The officially reported corona infection numbers have decreased in Saxony. Within a week, the seven-day incidence fell from 687.1 to 530.8 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants, according to the overview of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Thursday. Nationwide, the incidence is 661.3.

Experts have been assuming for some time that the value does not fully reflect the infection situation because not all infected people have a PCR test done and only those are counted in the statistics.

In a regional comparison, the infection rate in the Free State was most recently highest in the Vogtland (671.3) and lowest in the district of Central Saxony (421.9). According to the RKI, more than 1.84 million infections have been reported in Saxony since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020 - with just over four million inhabitants. 16,133 people have died from or with a Sars-CoV-2 infection.
