Saxony: Federal government promotes theater productions by "Unterleute" in Saxony

Radebeul (dpa/sn) - The Landesbühnen Sachsen receive support from the federal government for their drama production "Unterleuten" based on the novel of the same name by Juli Zeh from 2016. Its cultural foundation promotes the sustainable concept of the production through its "Zero - climate-neutral art and culture projects" program, as the theater announced on Monday. The stage and costume design played with the collecting, swapping and reusing of materials, things and objects that was widespread in the GDR and consisted largely of reused objects.

"We explicitly don't use any new materials, we just change what's already there," said Equipment Manager Ralph Zeger. To do this, work processes in the workshops, but also in scheduling, would have to be adjusted accordingly. "Here we see the opportunity to develop new perspectives on questions of sustainable production and to test how these can be integrated into the theater business in the long term." The ecological balance as a whole should remain as climate-neutral as possible, buses and trains should be used for travel, carpooling for the way to work or recycled material for advertising - and the audience can travel to and from all performances with the tickets for the theater with the public transport.

The premiere of "Unterleuten" is planned for February 4, 2022 in the main building in Radebeul. The stage version was written by chief dramaturge Ruth Heynen, and director Manuel Schöbel is in charge of directing.
