Saxony: First quadruplet birth after the fall of the Wall in Dresden

Dresden (dpa / sn) - For the first time since the fall of the Wall, quadruplets were born in the Dresden University Hospital. Sham, Joud, Ahmad and Ayham were born by caesarean section in mid-August and were discharged together with their mother at the end of last week, the hospital said on Tuesday. Quadruples were last seen in the university hospital in 1984.

At the birth in August, a team of midwives, obstetricians, pediatricians and nurses was ready for each child. According to the information, Sham was born first at 1325 grams, followed by her brother Ahmad, who was the heaviest of the four at 1405 grams. Ayham, the lightest at 1210 grams, gave way to his sister Joud, who weighed 1225 grams.

In total, it only took 45 minutes for all four children to be born, they said. The mother-to-be was already being cared for in the hospital in the weeks before the birth.

A total of around 2,000 children were born at the Dresden University Hospital this year. 62 of these were twins or triplets.
