Saxony: Leipzig awards the Caroline Neuber scholarship for the second time

Leipzig (dpa/sn) - The city of Leipzig will award a Caroline Neuber scholarship for the second time this year. Excellent, innovative and inspiring achievements by women and people of different genders in all areas and genres of contemporary theater will be honored, as the city announced on Tuesday. The award is given every two years and is associated with prize money of 5,000 euros and a work grant in Leipzig worth up to 10,000 euros for work and production equipment as well as living and travel expenses.

The scholarship will be awarded after the decision of the jury in autumn. The French choreographer and scenographer Marie Gourdain was the first recipient of a scholarship in 2020/21. The award commemorates the theater reformer Friederike Caroline Neuber, who received the Saxon privilege in 1727 to build a permanent theater in Leipzig.
