Saxony: more and more wine tourism - enjoyment in the Elbe valley is in demand

Dresden (dpa / sn) - Saxony is also benefiting from the trend towards wine tourism in Germany. According to a study by the German Wine Institute (DWI) in 2019, it was primarily responsible for 3.1 million overnight and day visits, as the Ministry of Tourism announced on Thursday in Dresden. According to this, wine tourists spent almost 300 million euros during their stay in the Elbe Valley, with short-term visitors spending 55 percent and holidaymakers 11 percent more than average travelers.

According to current market research figures from the Magic Cities City Trip Monitor from 2021, 43 percent of all guests consider the Elbe Valley to be suitable for "wine trips", whereby it scores particularly well with the excursion possibilities in the region. This includes visits to winegrowers along the Wine Route or Dresden's culture. And 78 percent of vacationers value the region's culinary offerings, three quarters of which include visiting restaurants.

The offers in the growing area between Pillnitz and Diesbar-Seußlitz now go beyond vineyard hikes, cellar tours and tastings and range from a stop at the ostrich inn to yoga between the vines. According to the Ministry, the Saxon Wine Route and Saxon Wine Trail are very popular with locals and guests.
