Leipzig (dpa/sn) - The nationwide Open Monument Day will open in Leipzig on Sunday. On the day of action, visitors can learn more about the history of hundreds of objects across the country. Some of the monuments are otherwise inaccessible and only open their doors on the day of the action.
In Saxony, the range extends from castles and manors to half-timbered houses, school and prayer houses and churches to what is probably the oldest building in Pappendorf (Central Saxony). There are also seven demonstration construction sites in Leipzig, where restorers, building researchers and craftsmen can be looked over the shoulder. With the action day, which has been held annually since 1993, the German Foundation for Monument Protection wants to draw attention to the preservation of monuments.
