Saxony: restorers take a close look at the monument of King Johann

Dresden (dpa / sn) - The bronze equestrian monument of the Saxon King Johann (1801-1873) is currently being examined for damage and repaired. "Then the bronze parts of the monument receive a protective wax that protects the natural green patina," said the state-owned Saxon real estate and construction management company on Wednesday. At the end of the measure, the joints of the granite base are to be renewed by a stonemasonry company, it said. The total costs amount to around 25,000 euros. The work should be completed by the end of October.

The monument on the Theaterplatz was last restored in 2013 and provided with a protective wax. King Johann ruled Saxony from 1854 until his death. He also worked as a translator under the pseudonym Philalethes (friend of truth).
