Saxony: Schlingel film festival begins: prominent guests

Chemnitz (dpa/sn) - New films, young audiences: The Chemnitz film festival Schlingel offers almost 160 films for children and young people in the coming days. The strips come from 60 countries, including Sweden, Ukraine and Colombia. Even before the official opening on Saturday evening in the opera house, programs with short films and an animated film were running. The Canadian flick "Krawall" was to be shown later. It tells the story of 13-year-old Émilie, who moves into a shared house after her overwhelmed mother kicked her out of the house.

In the words of Schlingel Festival Director Michael Harbauer, the event wants to build "bridges across borders". At the 27th edition of the festival, films will be shown in six venues in Chemnitz and Zwickau until October 15th. As a rule, they should be shown in the original language with German or English subtitles or synchronized live. A jury selected the 2022 vintage from more than 1,600 works. 48 of them celebrate their premiere in Germany at the festival.

Prominent guests are already expected on Sunday. In the afternoon the strip "The Mucklas and how they came to Petterson and Findus" celebrates its world premiere. Among other things, actor Uwe Ochsenknecht has confirmed his attendance. In the film by Ali Samadi Ahadi and Markus Dietrich he plays the exterminator Karl. Before that, "Alfons Zitterbacke - Endlich Klassenfahrt" can be seen in the presence of Alfons actor Luis Vorbach. Actor August Diehl is present at the preview of "Der Räuber Hotzenplotz".
