Saxony: Several hiking trails in Saxon Switzerland passable again

Bad Schandau (dpa / sn) - After forest work, several hiking trails in the rear part of the Saxon Switzerland National Park are accessible again. The reason for the necessary work was bark beetle infestation. Specifically, it is about the Königsweg, the Oberen Affensteinweg, the Heringsloch, the Hackten Weg and the Goldsteig, the administration of the national park announced on Tuesday in Bad Schandau. The costs were estimated at 24,000 euros.

As before, however, one had to reckon with an increased risk of falling trees on these paths, it said. "That's why we left the white warning signs with red writing on a number of paths. They should continue to warn of specific dangers such as dead trees that are still standing. After the forest fire, burned trees that are still standing are an additional hazard," explained Andreas Knaak, consultant in the national park administration.
