Saxony: Staatskapelle Dresden gives prize money to music project

Dresden (dpa/sn) - The Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden has donated the prize money of an award of 50,000 euros to the social music project "Musaik". For several years it has brought together children from refugee families and local girls and boys from the Dresden-Prohlis district, many of whom are growing up in precarious circumstances. Horn players from the Staatskapelle played with children in the Prohlis shopping center on Thursday. The association "Musaik - Music without borders" celebrates its fifth anniversary this year. The Staatskapelle Dresden was awarded the Herbert von Karajan Prize at the 2022 Easter Festival in Salzburg and is now passing on the prize money.

"Musical education is an important part of cultural education for children and young people. It not only promotes musical skills, but also the entire personality development," explained Saxony's Minister of Culture, Barbara Klepsch (CDU). The commitment of the association cannot be overestimated.

"Musaik" enables children and young people to receive musical training and in this way promotes their social integration and cultural participation. Free group music lessons are offered three times a week.
