Saxony: Thank you for helpers of the fires in Saxon Switzerland

Dresden (dpa/sn) - The Film Nights Dresden organized a thank-you campaign for the emergency services in the great forest fire in Saxon Switzerland. The helpers were invited to the film screening on Saturday evening. There they were also fed. Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) came with his family and tapped beer for the guests.

As a spokeswoman for the organizers said, around 300 emergency services had been registered. They came from the fire brigade, the mountain rescue service and various aid organizations from the German Red Cross to the Technical Relief Agency. The program included the film "Enclosed Society" by Sönke Wortmann.

The forest fire in the Saxon Switzerland National Park had kept the emergency services busy for around three and a half weeks. The fire broke out on July 25 in a part that was difficult to access. The disaster alarm in Bad Schandau was not lifted until August 19th.
