Saxony: Tourism figures Leipzig: Better relaxation

Leipzig/Dresden (dpa/sn) - Tourism in Leipzig is coming out of the Corona low faster than in other major German cities. As Leipziger Tourismus und Marketing GmbH (LTM) announced on Friday, almost 3.4 million overnight stays were counted in the trade fair city in 2022. Compared to the record year 2019 with 3.6 million overnight stays, that was around 6.5 percent fewer.

This puts Leipzig in a better position in the statistics than cities like Munich (minus 12.4 percent), Cologne (minus 14.7 percent) or Berlin (minus 22.3 percent). With a good 3.8 million overnight stays, Dresden is still 18.6 percent below the 2019 level. Only Hamburg outperformed Leipzig with a smaller minus of 4.6 percent.

LTM boss Volker Bremer was optimistic for this year and next. In 2023, Leipzig will "probably be one of the few major German cities with overnight stays above the 2019 level," explained the tourism manager. Both the popularity of international guests and the trade fair and congress business are picking up again significantly.
