Saxony: Warning strike at GKN because of the announced plant closure

Zwickau (dpa/sn) - In the fight to preserve the cardan shaft plant in Zwickau, IG Metall again called on the 835 employees to go on a warning strike. "Not a single cardan shaft will leave the plant this Monday. The colleagues are determined to do everything. The employees will not sacrifice their jobs to their employer's greed for profit without a fight. GKN is standing still today," said Benjamin Zabel from IG Metall Zwickau.

At the same time as the all-day warning strike, the fourth negotiation date between IG Metall and the company management is to take place. The union is demanding a social wage agreement to protect employees. Negotiations to date have not yet resulted in an agreement. After the warning strike started on February 10, workers were again asked last Wednesday to finish their work a few hours earlier.

The automotive supplier GKN announced in mid-January that it would be closing its plant in Mosel for the foreseeable future. Cardan shafts for cars are manufactured there. The decision was justified with a declining capacity utilization and falling prices.
