South Africa. Four people were killed in an attack at a bar in the eastern part of the country.

Police have learned that four people were killed in a shootout at Pietermaritzburg's Bar on Saturday night.

According to Nqobile Gwala, the shooting occurred in a city bar around 8:30 p.m. and left eight people dead and eight others injured. At night, another shooting took place in Soweto near Johannesburg, where 14 people were killed.

"A group of people were having beverages in a Tavern at 8:30 p.m. and there was a car parked in front," said the lieutenant colonel in a statement.

He added, "Two men leapt out of the car and entered the bar. They opened fire on the customers in unison."

He further stated that 12 people were affected. Two died immediately and two more died at the hospital. Eight others remain in hospital.

The victims were between 30 and 45 years of age. An investigation was opened.

Although it isn't known if there was a connection between the shootings, which were held in two different locations in South Africa on the same night, the modus operandi appears similar.

These violent incidents occur one year after the worst violence in the country since the end of apartheid, and the advent democracy.

These riots, looting, and destruction of industrial sites in Johannesburg, the province of Kwazulu-Natal in the east had resulted in more than 350 deaths in July 2021.

This violence was initially triggered by the conviction of Jacob Zuma, former President, for contempt of court. He was also prosecuted for serious corruption acts.
