South Korea A zebra walks through the streets of Seoul to the disbelief of the neighbors

A young zebra that escaped from a zoo has wandered the busy streets of the South Korean capital for hours before emergency workers tranquilized the animal and returned it to a zoo.

The zebra, a male named Sero who was born at the zoo in 2021, is doing well and is being examined by a team of veterinarians, according to Choi Ye-ra, an official at the Seoul Children's Park.

The zoo is investigating how the animal managed to escape. Although it has not been confirmed, several Korean media claim that the animal partially destroyed the wooden fence that surrounded its corral before escaping.

Videos of the zebra trotting past lines of cars waiting at a green light, and galloping down a street lined with commercial buildings as pedestrians stopped, have flooded social media.

Police and emergency services managed to corner the zebra as it wandered into a narrow alleyway between houses and shot it with tranquilizers, ending its three hours of freedom.

There is no information on injuries or material damage caused.
