Alberto Rodríguez, the child from Salamanca who needed an urgent bone marrow transplant, has died at the age of only four, according to the Monterrubio de Armuña City Council, where he lived with his family.
The boy was diagnosed with Burkitt's lymphoma a year ago as a result of some intestinal problems he suffered and that led him to surgery. He needed to undergo an urgent bone marrow transplant and his family mobilized on social networks.
"Today is an extremely sad day for all the residents of Monterrubio. A few hours ago we were informed that little Alberto Rodríguez has passed away. Brave, a fighter and with a smile that conquered and moved us all, Alberto will always remain in our hearts and in our memory", indicates the statement that the City Council has published on its Facebook profile
The case of Alberto Rodríguez had aroused great interest and numerous familiar faces joined in the search against time to find a compatible donor.
