The scrutiny of the emigrant vote in the autonomous elections in Asturias has confirmed the victory of the socialist Adrián Barbón with 19 seats, one less than those obtained by the PP, which harbored the hope of snatching a deputy from the PSOE to turn around the conformation of majorities in parliament.
The PP needed to add 890 more votes than the Socialists in the eastern constituency, one of the three into which the community is divided, to win one more seat to the detriment of the PSOE.
However, the popular have obtained 539 votes in said constituency, 108 more than the PSOE (431), socialist sources have pointed out.
After a recount that began at 9:00 a.m. in the Oviedo courts and that has lasted for more than 12 hours with the participation of several magistrates and three dozen officials, the scrutiny of the entire emigrant vote, added to the three constituencies , has given 2,431 votes to the PSOE and 2,131 to the PP.
Had the PP achieved its objective, both parties would have tied with 18 deputies each within an autonomous chamber made up of 45 seats, which would have left the left below an absolute majority and would have opened the possibility of a government led by the popular
Specifically, the sum of the 18 seats from the PSOE, the three from the IU and the only deputy from Podemos would have left the left with an absolute majority position.
In this scenario, with the four deputies that Vox has reached in these elections, twice as many as it had, the only deputy from Foro Asturias, Adrián Pumares, would have become decisive when it comes to forming majorities in the Principality's General Meeting .
The Electoral Board of Asturias has counted 7,329 votes from absent residents, which represents a participation of 5.9 percent, above the little more than 2 percent four years ago, before the recent suppression of the requested vote.
In Asturias, the Electoral Census of Absent Residents (CERA) included 123,201 people, 12.8 percent of Asturians with the right to vote in the autonomous communities, the highest percentage in the entire country in last Sunday's elections.
The PP candidate for the Presidency of the Principality, Diego Canga, assumed the results of last Sunday convinced that a tie was still possible thanks to the emigrant vote, although the party qualified the message throughout the week assuming that the overturn election was "difficult" given the unknown number of votes received and because the foreign vote has always been more favorable to the Socialists.
For his part, the president of the Principality and socialist candidate for re-election, Adrián Barbón, assured this morning that he was facing the recount "with prudence and a humble attitude", far from being "arrogant" that he does not like.
Barbón also recalled that, apart from the external vote, the FSA-PSOE was last Sunday the preferred option of the Asturians, with some 5,000 more votes than four years ago and some 20,000 more than the second party.
