Thuringia: Animals need it warm: Zoo sees no potential for savings

Erfurt (dpa/th) - In view of the rising energy costs, the Erfurt Zoo sees little potential for savings. The Thuringian Zoopark told the German Press Agency that the animals had to be supplied with heat. The lion savannah, the zoo school and the elephant house, for example, are particularly energy-intensive. In all animal houses there is a legally prescribed minimum temperature. The rhinos are set at about 15 degrees. In administration buildings, the specified room temperature of 19 degrees is maintained, it said. According to the zoo, far-reaching conversions to LED technology took place. According to the information, the annual energy costs of the Thuringian Zoopark amount to around 350,000 euros. Fixed prices apply until the end of December, so there was no increase this year. For 2023 no information on the prices could be given.
