Thuringia: Associations: Greater use of geothermal energy in Thuringia

Ettersburg (dpa/th) - In view of rising energy prices, the construction industry and the Thuringia Chamber of Engineers are campaigning for greater use of geothermal energy. In addition to solar and wind energy, politicians must also focus on geothermal energy, demanded the general manager of the Hesse-Thuringia construction industry association, Burkhard Siebert, on Thursday after a meeting at Ettersburg Castle.

At the initiative of the two organizations, representatives from politics, administration, business, public utilities and science spoke about perspectives for regenerative geoenergy in Thuringia. The Free State has suitable natural potential, qualified specialists and modern technologies to make geoenergy available on a large scale for the heat transition, said the President of the Chamber of Engineers, Elmar Dräger.

From the point of view of the construction industry association, better expansion conditions, optimized approval processes and accelerated planning for geothermal energy are necessary. Quality standards for geothermal plants would also have to be developed.
