Thuringia: Authority in Weimar: employment and economic development

Weimar (dpa/th) - Thuringia's state administration office is now also responsible for employment and economic development. The tasks of the previous Society for Labor and Economic Development of the Free State of Thuringia mbH (GfAW) were taken over at the beginning of the year, Thuringia's largest authority announced on Monday in Weimar. The state government decided on the structural change in May 2022. The state administration office will thus become the central authority for processing funding procedures in Thuringia.

The country will save millions in sales tax payments as a result of the change, the statement said. These have been due since 2021 when it came to processing funding applications. GfAW has now been deleted from the commercial register and, with its almost 300 employees, is part of the Thuringian state administration office as a working group.

The department group is headed by the previous GfAW managing director Erik Fichtner, who also became second vice president of the state administration office. All employees of the company were taken on and continued to work at their locations in Erfurt, Nordhausen, Suhl and Gera.
