Erfurt (dpa/th) - Because of the persistent drought, a below-average grain and rapeseed harvest is expected in Thuringia this year. With a result of 2.2 million tons, the grain harvest is expected to be 13 percent lower than the average for the years 2016 to 2021, the State Office for Statistics announced on Friday in Erfurt. The statisticians based their statements on the first estimates of the farms.
According to this information, the companies expected a harvest of around 1.3 million tons of winter wheat, which is the dominant type of grain in Thuringia. The estimated yield is then 6.6 tons per hectare. This means that the yield is 1.1 tons per hectare or 15 percent below the previous year's value.
