Thuringia: CDU calls for support for sports clubs with energy costs

Erfurt (dpa/th) - In view of the energy crisis, the CDU parliamentary group has called for help for sports clubs and sports facilities. In order to maintain sports operations in autumn and winter, it must be ensured that the sports facilities and swimming pools remain open, said the sports policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group, Thadäus König, on Thursday. Restrictions such as lowering the water temperature should not be to the detriment of swimming lessons.

Sport needs state support even during the energy crisis. "If these do not happen, it will be like the next lockdown in many sports," said König. Against the background of the renovation backlog, he also called for special funding programs from the federal and state governments. However, Red-Red-Green want to cut the allocations for municipal sports facility construction for the next budget from ten to five million euros. There are also massive cuts in the budget for investments in club sports facilities.

In Thuringia, municipal sports facilities are made available to sports clubs free of charge. Most of the clubs are therefore not directly affected, but are concerned about possible restrictions or even the closure of the facilities due to high costs, explained Left Party leader Steffen Dittes. "Everyone is aware that there will be restrictions." It is important to minimize these. The Left wants to examine and advise on the demand from the state sports federation - to include the sports clubs in the hardship fund to be discussed to deal with the energy crisis.
