Thuringia: Erfurt: Demo shows solidarity with protesters in Iran

Erfurt (dpa/th) - In solidarity with the protesters against the government in Iran, a demonstration has passed through parts of the city center in Erfurt. The police spoke of around 110 participants on Saturday. The demonstrators moved from the Anger to the station forecourt, where, according to the police spokesman, they lit grave candles. The demonstration was peaceful. According to the police, supporters of the protests in Iran also came together in Jena for a rally in the city center.

System-critical mass protests have been taking place in Iran for weeks. The trigger was the death of 22-year-old Iranian Kurd Mahsa Amini. The young woman was arrested by the vice squad for allegedly violating Islamic dress codes. She died in police custody in mid-September. Since then there have also been repeated protests against the Iranian government and the Islamic system of rule in Thuringia. Women also demonstratively cut their hair out of solidarity with the people of Iran.
