Thuringia: Minister: Initial reception center in Suhl is on the border

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Thuringia's Migration Minister Dirk Adams sees the initial reception center in Suhl "reached its limit". That's what the Greens politician told the "Thuringian General". "Currently 1214 people are housed there." With 1350 seats, the capacity is only slightly higher. Two weeks ago, the districts were informed that they would have to take in about 260 people per week from Suhl.

The initial reception facility in Suhl is the central object of the state for the accommodation of refugees in the first days or weeks after their arrival in Thuringia. In addition to Ukrainian war refugees, who usually only spend a few days there, asylum seekers from Afghanistan and Syria, for example, also live on the site.

Adams expects many more people seeking protection to arrive in October and November. "So we should have at least 40,000 entries by the end of the year - that's 10,000 more than in the so-called refugee year 2015. In the meantime, this can also mean that more gyms have to be occupied." But you do everything you can to ensure that it doesn't come to that and look for suitable properties.
