Thuringia: More income from dog tax for Thuringian municipalities

Erfurt (dpa/th) - The Thuringian municipalities received significantly more dog tax in the second quarter of 2022 than in the same period last year. As the Thuringian State Office for Statistics announced on Friday, the municipal coffers recorded an increase of 273,000 euros compared to the previous year. A total of over five million euros in dog taxes were collected in the second quarter.

The independent cities in Thuringia took the most, especially Erfurt with 642,000 euros. When it comes to the highest payments per capita, Erfurt is in first place among the independent cities with just under three euros. Of all the districts, Nordhausen registers the highest per capita payments at EUR 3.71.

Compared to the pre-Corona period, the municipalities recorded a significant increase in income. Specifically, around EUR 614,000 more was earned in the second quarter of 2022 than in the second quarter of 2019. That means an increase of 13.4 percent.
