Thuringia: Ramelow accepts peace light from Bethlehem

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) received the light of peace from Bethlehem in Erfurt on Monday. The light was brought to the Thuringian State Chancellery by scouts from the Erfurt Diocesan Association of the German Scout Association Sankt Georg.

The Peace Light Campaign was launched in 1986 by the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF). Since then, every year a child lights the flame in the grotto of Jesus' birth in Bethlehem. From there she is taken to Vienna by plane. German Girl Scouts have been distributing the Light of Peace since 1994. This year the motto of the campaign is "Peace begins with you".
