Thuringia: Thuringia's expenses rise to a record level

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Thuringia's state parliament will discuss the budget for the coming year in a special session on Monday (12 p.m.). The draft of the red-red-green state government envisages record spending of around 12.8 billion euros. In order to finance them, the country has to liquidate part of its reserves. New debts should not be taken on, but part of the loans taken out in the corona pandemic should be repaid. A debt repayment of 236 million euros is planned.

Finance Minister Heike Taubert (SPD) will present the draft budget to Parliament. The six parliamentary groups can take a position on this. Tough budget negotiations in the state parliament are expected again in the coming weeks. Left, SPD and Greens do not have their own majority and must make compromises with the opposition so that the budget can be passed before the end of the year.
