"Time for a gay winner": Boy George wants to be queen of the jungle

This year's edition of "I'm a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!", the British version of the jungle camp, starts on Sunday. The most prominent participant this year is definitely singer Boy George. And he makes an announcement right before the start.

It is now certain: Boy George will mix up the British version of the jungle camp this year. The singer, who became known with the Culture Club formation, has set himself big goals. The 61-year-old told the British "Daily Mail": "I will be a queen, honey". And he added: "It's about damn time for a gay man to win."

Boy George, famous for his androgynous performances, also confirmed that he was recognized by everyone who attended "I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!" receives the highest fee this year. It should be 500,000 pounds, the equivalent of around 570,000 euros.

According to his own statements, he wants to work hard for this. "Listen, I don't think you should be on a show like this unless you want to do your best," Boy George said. "I never go on stage thinking I'll give a half-hearted performance."

He reworked the famous jungle gap himself, the singer continued to reveal. He put red dots on the olive-green shirt that the candidates traditionally wear to the camp. Boy George explained that he did not ask the production for permission in advance. "I didn't think I would get away with it." However, he does not yet know whether he will actually be allowed to wear his modified shirt in the camp.

To stay sane, Boy George also wants to practice yoga and chant in the Australian bush. "I know this will upset some people, so hopefully I can find a place where I can do that," he warned his fellow campers before.

In addition to Boy George, nine other candidates will fight for the jungle crown. They include British ex-Health Secretary Matt Hancock and Mike Tindall, the first royal on the show. Tindall is the husband of Queen's granddaughter Zara Tindall.

By the way, German jungle camp fans don't have to look enviously at Great Britain for too long. In Germany, too, at the beginning of next year it will finally be: "I'm a star - get me out of here!".
