American actor Tom Sizemore, known for his badass roles such as in the feature film "Saving Private Ryan", died at 61, his agent announced on Friday March 3.

"It is with great sadness and grief that I must announce that actor Thomas Edward Sizemore ("Tom Sizemore"), passed away peacefully in his sleep at St Joseph's Hospital in Burbank, California, said a statement. "His brother Paul and his children Jayden and Jagger...were by his side."

The actor had suffered a cerebral aneurysm in February and the maintenance of his vital functions ended on Friday. A few days earlier, doctors had concluded that nothing more could be done for him, according to his manager Charles Lago.

During his career, Tom Sizemore has worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood. His star role was undoubtedly that of an American soldier during the Second World War, interpreted in the film "Saving Private Ryan", directed by Steven Spielberg and released in 1998.

This feature film had been nominated for the Oscar for best picture and its actors, including Tom Hanks and Matt Damon, had also been nominated for their joint performance for the title of best distribution by the Screen Actors Guild.

During a turbulent life, Tom Sizemore struggled with addiction and was imprisoned several times, including after assaulting his girlfriend.
