Trials: Life imprisonment for double murder of mother and daughter

A 52-year-old former private detective has been sentenced to life imprisonment in Austria for the murder of two women. The Salzburg Regional Court considered it proven that the accused, who confessed, killed his 50-year-old girlfriend and her mother at the age of 76 in May 2021 with numerous shots.

Because of the dangerous nature of the 52-year-old, the court ordered his admission to an "institute for mentally abnormal but responsible offenders". "From the point of view of general prevention of the murder of women, the judgment has a deterrent effect," said a court spokesman. Thursday's verdict is not final.

According to the court, the motive for the crime was the rejection of the accused, who did not want to accept the end of the relationship. He also felt offended by the 76-year-old mother. The ex-private detective drove to his girlfriend's house with two pistols and 106 rounds of ammunition. At first there was an argument with the mother. According to the defendant, she insulted him massively and tried to box him out of the daughter's house. Finally he fired eleven shots from his pistol. His victims bled to death.
