Environmental activist Greta Thunberg was arrested this Tuesday by police officers while participating in a protest in London against energy companies and fossil fuels, according to the organizers of the demonstration.

The organization Fossil Free London, which called the demonstration next to the InterContinental hotel on Park Lane, next to the central Hyde Park park, denounced the arrest on its X account (formerly Twitter): "Greta Thunberg has just of being detained".

Although, when asked by EFE, the Metropolitan Police did not confirm the arrest of the 20-year-old Swedish activist, images posted on various social networks show how police officers take Thunberg to the back of a police van.

Thunberg participated early in a demonstration to protest against the operations of energy companies that advocate for fossil fuels.

More than a hundred activists gathered for Fossil Free London attended that event, next to a hotel where the heads of several energy companies, including Aramco, BP and Cepsa, were holding the Energy Intelligence Forum in their rooms.

In statements to the media, the Swedish activist called for "eradicating" the economic benefits generated by fossil fuel industries, while denouncing how "people around the world are dying and suffering from the consequences of the crisis caused by these industries".

"For decades it has been clear that this industry is very aware of the consequences of their business models and yet they have done nothing," cried the Swedish activist. During the event, as EFE was able to confirm, agents from the London Metropolitan Police (Met) made several arrests of activists participating in the protest.
