Virtual reality games and applications, which create an environment generated by computer technology and give the user the feeling of being immersed in it, will double their value in 2023 compared to the previous year. It is estimated that Spaniards will spend 103 million euros on this type of content this year, according to a report prepared by Telecoming, a company specialized in mobile entertainment services.

Since Facebook was launched in February 2004 in the United States thanks to Mark Zuckerberg, the way more than seven million people around the world interact and create personal relationships has changed forever. In less than 30 years, people went from connecting with friends and family through a computer to living in spaces created by virtual reality.

Although the content market for this technology is still small, it has high growth potential. Telecoming estimates that Spain will double the 49.4 million euros reached in 2022 and reach 103 million in 2023. This represents 6% of what the entire European continent will collect in the same year.

Europe will end up with 17% of the world virtual reality market, representing a total of 1,847 million euros. In addition, the report ensures that Spain will grow on average by 69% each year until 2025, reaching 234 million euros. This means 8% over Europe and faster growth than the European average.

According to the same study, this year Spaniards will access 2.8 million virtual reality applications and games, a figure that will reach 6 million in 2025, registering an average year-on-year growth of close to 50%. At the European level, 63 million virtual reality apps and video games will be accessed, figures that will reach 103.4 million in 2025.

Even so, Spain will be in the tail in time of virtual reality consumption per user with respect to other European countries, says Telecoming. The report estimates that Spaniards will spend 181.1 minutes per month with this type of technology.

The report also establishes that games will be the flagship product in terms of development, with a total of 90% of the content created for this technology. The average cost per download of a video game in the country will be €21.7, a figure that is below the European average of €23.2. Globally the cost is €9.2.
