Spain Camps uses the acquittal in the case of the suits to get rid of the new trial by Gürtel in the National Court

"In the original instruction of this cause it was already said that there were no indications of possible indications of Mr. Camps to award contracts to Orange Market." With this statement, the defense of the former president of the Valencian Generalitat Francisco Camps wanted to convince a court of the National Court this morning that the oral hearing cannot go ahead, at least against Camps.

It was on the first day of the last trial of the Gürtel plot that Camps has to face, which the Prosecutor's Office accuses the Administration of prevarication and fraud for the award to the Gürtel subsidiary in Valencia directed by Álvaro Pérez, 'El Bigotes' , from the stand of the Valencian Community for the Fitur 2009 edition.

At the gates of the Court, Camps has affirmed that he is suffering "persecution" by the Prosecutor's Office and has denounced the "secret and obscene pacts" with other defendants that incriminate him. Of the 25 who sit on the bench, 11 have reached an agreement with Anti-Corruption in which they acknowledge the facts in exchange for a reduction in the sentence request.

These agreements make it more difficult for Camps to get out of a trial that his defense does not want him to start. In this Monday's session dedicated to the previous questions, the lawyer of the former popular leader has listed various reasons for filing the case as far as he is concerned.

The main one has been the allegation that in the investigation of whether the corrupt plot paid for the suits, it was already ruled out that Camps gave orders to contract with El Bigotes. It was in the phase prior to that trial, which was finally held for other possible trials and from which he was acquitted despite the fact that other defendants also implicated him at that time.

The defense understands that the dismissal of the crime in that case of the Superior Court of Justice prevents the matter from being raised again now in the National Court. And asks the court to rule on this interpretation before proceeding with the trial.

Camps has also argued that the treatment he has suffered by Justice violates the European directive on the presumption of innocence. Mainly, because of the way in which he was incorporated into the investigation, when it was already concluded. The confession of the Gürtel leaders in another trial implicating Camps led to the reopening of the investigation into the Fitur stand and to having the former president as investigated, despite the fact that he had already testified as a witness.

To this the defense adds that the statements of other defendants were not strong enough to lead to the imputation of Camps. It has also indicated that when they wanted to carry out proceedings regarding him, the "inflexible" maximum investigation deadlines had already been exceeded, in addition to having prescribed the allegedly criminal acts.

Tomorrow the court plans to conclude the presentation of preliminary questions and begin the interrogation of the accused. Including, unless the previous questions are immediately successful, Francisco Camps.
