The Berlin district court has sentenced a 46-year-old to three years and ten months in prison who swindled over half a million euros with invented corona test centers. The criminal court found Zoran S. guilty of particularly serious fraud, as the court announced. According to the findings of the chamber, the man who lives in the capital had registered in November 2021 in Baden-Württemberg as an operator of corona test centers.
In December 2021 and January 2022, he billed the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians for tests and material costs for this and thus received almost 650,000 euros - but the test centers did not exist. In a situation that was not good for all of us, the accused plundered the health insurance companies, the presiding judge said in his verdict. However, it must also be taken into account that the 46-year-old was made particularly easy to commit the crime - there was almost no verification by the responsible authorities.
In addition to imprisonment, the court ordered the confiscation of the proceeds of the crime. With its verdict, the criminal court was below the demand of the public prosecutor's office, which had requested four and a half years of imprisonment. The defender, on the other hand, pleaded for a maximum sentence of three years and five months.
